Welcome NCAA Member Institutions
Among the primary financial benefits the NCAA funds to member schools is the NCAA Catastrophic Injury Insurance Program, which assists student-athletes and other athletic participants who suffer catastrophic injuries while participating in an intercollegiate athletics activity. However, the NCAA Catastrophic Injury Insurance Program is limited in its coverage of prospective student-athletes. The Catastrophic policy covers only "a prospective student that has graduated from high school and signed an irrevocable commitment to participate in a Qualifying Intercollegiate Sport (or its equivalent for cheerleading) at a Participating School." If the prospective student-athlete coming to your campus for a try-out does not meet these requirements, they will not have coverage under the NCAA Catastrophic program. For this reason, Mutual of Omaha, offers an optional plan to institutions wishing to provide catastrophic medical coverage to prospective student-athletes not already covered. Please note that coverage and limits for this program will differ from the NCAA's Catastrophic program.
